雪不欲在胡家白吃白喝，主动要求在盐栈帮忙。坚看到轩处处照顾雪，不禁暗自高兴。盐栈朱掌柜晚上到远的母亲聂张氏经营的酱油店，原来他静静将剩盐悄悄让给她。聂发现远捉盐枭受伤担心不已，聂的好友，坚的妹妹彩蝶建议替远成家，令他不再过分拼博。而蝶竟推议远与坚之幼女亭嫣成亲。两家人瞒着远请他到胡家相亲，远得悉后主动推辞。留在胡府作客的远与雪相遇，但竟被婷发现。与坚友好的盐运使调任，由山东来的姚守正接任。坚为了拉拢正，竟请他到胡府居住，但胡家亦从此多事。
